Work in Progress
Atlantic Gallery, Maritime Museum
Client: National Maritime Museum, Greenwich

The National Maritime Museum is the world’s largest maritime museum with 10 free galleries and a vast collection that spans artworks, maps and charts, memorabilia and thousands of other objects.

We were invited to work alongside a Focus Group gathered from active members of the community to redress the under representation of the slave trade within the museum's Atlantic Gallery.

The design incorporates the feedback and contributions from the Focus Group and other stakeholders. The colour scheme is influenced by the Pan-African flag and natural timber elements are included with coloured edge banding. The feedback/discussion space allows for confidential contributions as well as providing a facility for displaying contributions publicly whilst the map on the adjacent wall looks at the museums immediate context within the slave trade conversation.
